Windows 10 considerations

Windows 10, released on July 29, 2015 returns the familiar Start Menu and is likely to appeal to users of Windows 8.  Microsoft is providing free upgrades through Windows Update to users of Windows 7 or 8 license through July 2016.

There was no Windows 9 - reportedly because Microsoft wanted to emphasize how different Windows 10 is from its unpopular predecessor, Windows 8.

For those who are considering an upgrade to Windows 10, its important to consider that the upgrade process may not be problem free, especially from Windows 7. For this reason, satisfied users of Windows 7 may be best served by waiting until its time to replace a computer rather than upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  Microsoft will support Windows 7 with security updates until 2020.
